Privacy Policy for Kounts Apps
Last Updated: October 5, 2026
Welcome! This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile applications: Kounts (event countdown app), Kounts Trip (travel companion app), Kounts Dose (medication tracker app), and Kounts Care (plant and pet care app), and Kounts Due (expiry and renewal tracker app), collectively referred to as the "Applications." Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE WITH THE TERMS OF THIS PRIVACY POLICY, PLEASE DO NOT ACCESS THE APPLICATIONS.
1. COLLECTION OF YOUR INFORMATION
We may collect information about you in a very limited way. All your data — countdown events, trips, packing lists, day plans, travel journal entries, medications, schedules, dose history, plant and pet profiles, care history, growth photos and measurements, expiry dates, renewals and scanned documents, presets, images, and other content — is stored locally on your device. We do not have access to this data. The only information we collect includes:
- Analytics Data: We use Google Firebase and Google Analytics to collect anonymous usage statistics and crash reports. This helps us improve the app's performance and fix bugs. This data cannot be tied to your personal identity.
- Device Information: Basic device information such as your device model and operating system version may be collected as part of crash reports to help us troubleshoot issues.
- Feedback & Contact Messages: If you send us feedback from inside one of the apps (Kounts, Kounts Trip, Kounts Dose, Kounts Care or Kounts Due) or through the contact form on kounts.app, we receive what you type: your name, your message, whether we may contact you, your email address only if you say we may, which app it came from, and the date and time. Nothing is sent unless you choose to send it. Messages are kept in a private spreadsheet and announced in a private team chat, and are used only to reply to you and to improve the apps. They are not shared, sold or used for advertising. Please don't put sensitive information, such as health details or document numbers, in a message. You can ask us to delete a message at any time by writing to [email protected].
- Kounts Care is different: Kounts Care does not include any third-party analytics or crash-reporting SDK. Its usage counters (for example, how many care tasks were completed) are plain numbers kept on your own device and are not sent anywhere. If we ever add optional analytics uploading, it will be opt-in and this policy will be updated first.
- Kounts Due is different too: Kounts Due has no servers, no accounts, no analytics or crash-reporting SDK and no advertising. Apart from a feedback message you choose to send (see Feedback & Contact Messages above), it collects nothing.
2. USE OF YOUR INFORMATION
The limited information we collect is used solely for:
- Improving the Application through analytics and crash reports.
- Ensuring the app functions correctly on your device.
- Enhancing the user experience based on anonymous usage patterns.
- Replying to the feedback and contact messages you send us.
All analytics data is anonymous and aggregated. The Application does not track you across apps or websites owned by other companies, and no advertising identifiers are collected.
3. DATA STORAGE AND PRIVACY
We take your privacy seriously across all our apps:
- Local Storage: All your data — countdown events, trips, packing lists, day plans, travel journal entries, medications, schedules, dose history, plant and pet profiles, care tasks and history, growth photos, measurements and notes, expiry items, renewal history and scanned documents, presets, categories, images, and other content — is stored locally on your iOS device. We do not have access to this data.
- Optional Calendar Sync (Kounts only): If you enable Calendar Sync in Kounts, your countdown events are written into your Apple Calendar on your device. This happens entirely on-device and the data never passes through our servers.
- Shared Trips & iCloud (Kounts Trip): Your trips are stored on your device, in the app's own local storage; the app does not sync them to iCloud or send them to us. Only a trip you choose to share leaves your device: that trip's details — such as its name, dates, destinations, stays and planned places, the flights, trains and other journeys added to it (with their stations or airports, times and service numbers), packing list, day plans and the memories shared to it — are kept in the private iCloud database of the person who shared it, managed by Apple through CloudKit, and shared through Apple's CloudKit sharing only with the people invited to that trip. Memories you keep private, trip notes, booking references and your home city are never included. This data never touches our servers and we cannot read it.
- Details Kept on Your iPhone (Kounts Trip): Booking references and your private notes on a journey or booking are stored only in the app's local storage on your iPhone. They are never synced, never shared with a trip and never shown on the Lock Screen. Seats and passenger names are never stored. The home city you can set for your travel passport also stays on your iPhone and is never synced or shared; it is left out of the passport and Year in Travel images you export unless you choose to include it in that export.
- Booking Import (Kounts Trip): When you share or pick a booking confirmation, ticket, screenshot or Wallet pass, Kounts Trip reads it entirely on your iPhone, using Apple's on-device text recognition and, on devices with Apple Intelligence, Apple's on-device language model (never Private Cloud Compute). The file is never uploaded. A file shared into the app waits in protected storage on your device until you review it, and is deleted once the import is saved or discarded, or after 7 days at most. To spot duplicates, the app keeps only a fingerprint (a one-way hash) of each imported booking and a count of imports per trip, on your device. What you choose to add, such as a flight, a stay or a reservation, becomes part of the trip, so the people on a shared trip can see it; its booking reference stays on your iPhone.
- Apple Maps (Kounts Trip): When you search for a destination, a place, a station or airport, or your home city, the text you type is sent to Apple Maps to find matches, and the app may ask Apple Maps for a place's time zone from its coordinates. Apple handles these requests under its own privacy terms; they never reach us.
- "Pro until you're home" (Kounts Trip): If Kounts Trip gives you Pro for free on one of your trips, it records this in your iCloud Keychain so the offer applies once per Apple Account. The record holds only the trip's random identifier and the start and end dates of the offer. It syncs through Apple's iCloud Keychain and is never sent to us.
- Shared Photos (Kounts Trip): Photos you attach to a memory that you deliberately share to a shared trip are uploaded to iCloud through Apple's CloudKit, as part of that shared trip, so the people on it can see them. Photos in private (unshared) memories never leave your device.
- Weather (Kounts Trip): Arrival forecasts come from Apple Weather (WeatherKit) using the destination you type into a trip. Kounts Trip never reads your device location — the destination is content you enter, and Apple processes the forecast request under Apple's terms.
- Calendar & Photos permissions (Kounts Trip): With your permission, Kounts Trip can add your trips to your Apple Calendar, including a timed event for each flight, train or other journey of yours (with its route, service number and departure station or terminal, never a booking reference), and save the cards you create to your photo library. These actions happen on-device; we never receive this data.
- Live Activity (Kounts Trip): When you reach a trip's departure day with Live Activities enabled, a countdown is displayed on your Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island. If you've added a departure time, it counts down to it and can show the route and service number, unless you turn on "Hide details on Lock Screen" for that trip, which also hides them from widgets and Apple Watch. This is rendered entirely on-device using local data.
- Optional iCloud Sync (Kounts Dose only): Kounts Dose runs on iPhone, iPad and Mac, with an Apple Watch app. If you turn on iCloud sync (part of the one-time Dose Plus purchase), your medications, schedules, prescriptions and dose history are kept in your own private iCloud database, managed by Apple through CloudKit, so they appear on your iPhone, iPad and Mac. This data is stored only in your iCloud account — it never touches our servers and we cannot read it. Photos are never synced, even with sync on. Sync is off by default.
- Health & Medication Content (Kounts Dose): Your medicines, dosages, schedules and dose history are treated as private, on-device content. We never collect, receive, or have access to medication names, doses, or any other health content — analytics record only anonymous, aggregated feature counters, never what you take.
- Apple Health (Kounts Dose): On iPhone and iPad, and only if you allow it, Kounts Dose reads the medications you track in Apple Health and the doses you logged there, so you don't have to enter them again. It never writes anything to Apple Health. What it reads is stored in the app like the rest of your medicines, and is never sent to us or used for analytics or advertising. The Mac app has no Apple Health access.
- Camera & Photos (Kounts Dose): On iPhone and iPad, and only with your permission, the camera is used for pictures you choose to add — a medicine's box, the pill itself, a photo of someone you look after, or the pages of a prescription — and to scan a pack's barcode and label. You can also pick a photo from your library; the app only receives the photo you pick. Text on a pack or prescription is read on your device, by Apple's Vision framework and, where your device supports Apple Intelligence, Apple's on-device language model; the image is not uploaded anywhere. Photos stay on the device that took them: they are never synced, never included in an export or PDF, never part of analytics, and are deleted with the medicine, person or prescription they belong to. The Mac app has no camera features.
- PDF Reports (Kounts Dose): The printable medication list and appointment pack are created on your device, never include a photo, and are kept in the app's own temporary storage until you share them through the system share sheet. They go only where you send them; we never receive them. The report period you last chose is remembered on that device only and is not synced.
- Apple Watch (Kounts Dose): Today's doses are sent from your iPhone to your paired Apple Watch, and doses you log on the watch are sent back to the iPhone, directly between your devices through Apple's WatchConnectivity. Nothing passes through our servers.
- Appointments (Kounts Dose): The appointments you enter, with their places, notes, questions, checklists and your care team list, are stored on your device like your medicines and are never sent to us. If you turn on iCloud sync, they are kept in your own private iCloud database along with your medicines. Reminders, widgets, the Apple Watch app and the Lock Screen card are all produced on your device. Analytics never include an appointment's type, place, clinician, date or notes.
- Apple Maps (Kounts Dose): When you search for an address for an appointment or a care team member, the text you type is sent to Apple Maps to find matches, and the app may ask Apple Maps for a place's time zone. Apple handles these requests under its own privacy terms; they never reach us. You can always type an address without searching, and Kounts Dose never asks for your location.
- Optional Calendar Access (Kounts Dose): Off until you turn on "Show in Calendar". iOS then asks for full calendar access, because it has no narrower level that lets an app keep its own events up to date. Kounts Dose creates its own calendars for your appointments and reads only the events in them, events you choose to import, and other events at the time of an appointment you are adding, to show clashes. Events never contain medicines, notes or questions, and each person's calendar can be set to show only "Appointment". Nothing read from Calendar is sent to us. The calendars live in your own calendar account, so they may sync through iCloud or be shared with people you share that calendar with.
- On-Device Care Data (Kounts Care): Your plant and pet profiles, care tasks and completion history, growth photos, measurements, notes and archived or memorial profiles are stored on your device. We do not have access to any of it.
- Household Sharing (Kounts Care): If you invite family or housemates to your household, your profiles and care history sync through Apple's CloudKit sharing, inside your own private iCloud database. Everyone you invite can see and update every profile in the household. This data never touches our servers and we cannot read it. The invitation link is a capability link: anyone who opens it can join the household, so only send it to people you trust.
- Sitter Links (Kounts Care): When you create a sitter link, Kounts Care publishes a limited, read-only snapshot to Apple's CloudKit public database so the person sitting for you can open a web page without an account or an app. That snapshot contains only what a sitter needs: your household name, the dates covered, the care tasks for up to 14 days, the notes you wrote for the sitter, the emergency contact you entered, and any toxicity cautions. It does not include your growth photos, your full care history, or your household members' identities. Because no sign-in is required, anyone who has the link can view that snapshot, so treat it like a password and only share it with your sitter. Links expire automatically (14 days by default) and revoking a link deletes the published snapshot immediately. Please avoid putting sensitive personal information into sitter notes or the emergency contact field.
- Camera & Photos (Kounts Care): With your permission, the camera is used to identify a plant and to take growth photos, and photo library access (add only) is used when you save a timelapse, a before and after image, or an export. Kounts Care never reads or scans your existing photo library.
- Location & Weather (Kounts Care): If you allow it, Kounts Care uses your approximate while-in-use location for two things: heat and frost care nudges from Apple Weather (WeatherKit), and adjusting seasonal watering to the daylight where you live. Your location is used on the device and sent only to Apple to fetch the forecast, under Apple's terms. We never receive it, and it is never stored on our side. Declining location permission simply turns those nudges off; everything else keeps working.
- Plant Identification (Kounts Care): Identification runs on your device first, using Apple's Vision framework and, on supported devices, Apple Intelligence's on-device language model (Apple may route parts of this through its Private Cloud Compute under Apple's privacy terms). One optional step in that process sends a downscaled copy of the photo you just took to Pl@ntNet, an independent plant-identification service, to get an exact species match. Only that single photo is sent, with no account, name or other data attached, and it happens only when you actively identify a plant. Pl@ntNet processes it under its own privacy policy. Manual search is always available if you prefer not to send anything.
- Notifications & Widgets (Kounts Care): Care reminders, overdue follow-ups, supply alerts and the daily digest are scheduled by iOS on your device from your local data. Widgets, Lock Screen counts and Siri shortcuts read a small snapshot file stored on your device. None of this passes through our servers.
- On-Device Items & Scans (Kounts Due): The names, dates, notes, costs, websites and people you enter, and the documents you scan or import, are stored in the app's protected storage on your device. Scans are protected so they cannot be read while the device is locked. We do not have access to any of it.
- Reading Documents (Kounts Due): Text in a scanned or imported document is read on your device, using Apple's Vision framework and, where your device supports it, Apple Intelligence's on-device language model to help pick out dates. Nothing is uploaded to us or to anyone else for this, and you review the result before it is saved.
- Optional iCloud Sync (Kounts Due): Off by default. If you turn it on, your items and scans are kept in your own private iCloud database, managed by Apple through CloudKit, so they appear on your other devices. This data never touches our servers and we cannot read it. Settings → Delete all data removes your items and scans from the device and from your iCloud account.
- Camera, Photos & Files (Kounts Due): The camera is used only when you choose to scan a document. Photos and Files are accessed only for the items you pick through the system pickers. Kounts Due never reads your existing library.
- Notifications, Widgets & Live Activities (Kounts Due): Reminders are scheduled by iOS on your device from your local data. Widgets and Live Activities can show item names on your Home Screen, Lock Screen and Dynamic Island; you control this in iOS Settings. None of this passes through our servers.
- Backups (Kounts Due): A backup you export is a readable file that contains your items and documents. It goes only where you save or send it, and we never receive it.
- No Private Data Collection: We do not collect, store, or have access to your private names, event details, session notes, medication details, plant or pet details, expiry dates or documents, locations, or images you add to your data.
- Third-Party Services: We use Google Firebase and Google Analytics for anonymous usage statistics and crash reporting (not in Kounts Care or Kounts Due, which have no analytics SDK at all). These services are configured without advertising identifiers and do not track you across other apps or websites. Apple's CloudKit, WeatherKit and Apple Intelligence handle the sync, forecast and on-device identification features described above under Apple's own privacy terms. In Kounts Trip and Kounts Dose, Apple Maps handles place and address search, and booking import uses only Apple's on-device frameworks. Pl@ntNet is used only for the optional plant identification step in Kounts Care. Kounts Due uses only Apple's on-device frameworks, plus CloudKit if you turn sync on. We use no advertising networks and no data brokers in any of our apps.
4. TRACKING TECHNOLOGIES
We use Firebase Analytics to help us understand how users interact with our Application. This service collects anonymous usage data. No personally identifiable information is collected through this technology. Firebase Crashlytics is used to identify and fix app crashes. Neither service uses advertising identifiers or tracks you across apps or websites owned by other companies.
In Kounts Trip, usage analytics and crash reports each have their own switch in the app's Settings ("Share usage analytics" and "Share crash reports"), and you can also turn usage analytics off during onboarding. When a switch is off, nothing is collected for it. Kounts Trip's usage events record which features are used, as counts, on/off flags and ranges (for example, that a booking was imported or a card was shared, or whether you use a widget or the Apple Watch app). They never include trip names, places, countries, travel dates, booking details or anything you type.
Kounts Care ships with no analytics or crash-reporting SDK. It keeps a small set of anonymous counters on your device only, and sends nothing.
Kounts Due ships with no analytics or crash-reporting SDK and no tracking of any kind.
5. SECURITY OF YOUR INFORMATION
Since all your content is stored locally on your device, the security of this data depends on your device's security settings. We recommend using device passcodes, Face ID, or Touch ID to protect access to your device. For the limited analytics data we collect, we use industry-standard security measures through Google Firebase.
6. APP STORE PRIVACY NUTRITION LABELS
In accordance with Apple's App Store guidelines, we disclose how data is handled:
- Your event data and other app content is stored locally on your device and is never transmitted to us or to our servers.
- Anonymous analytics and crash report data is collected through Google Firebase and is not linked to your identity.
- Kounts Dose does not collect health data. Your medications, schedules, dose history and appointments stay on your devices (or, if you enable sync, only in your private iCloud database, which Apple treats as not collected because we cannot read it). Photos never leave the device that took them, and PDF reports go only where you send them. Its analytics record only anonymous feature counters, never medication names or doses.
- Kounts Trip's only collected data is anonymous, aggregated usage and crash reports, which are not linked to your identity and can be turned off in the app's Settings. Your trips, travel plans, packing lists, day plans, journal and photos stay on your device — or, when you share a trip, only in the sharer's private iCloud database and with the people invited to that trip, which Apple treats as not collected because we cannot read it. Booking confirmations you import are read on your device and never uploaded. Weather forecasts use the destination you type, not your device location.
- Kounts Care collects no data about your use of the app: it has no analytics or crash-reporting SDK, so there is nothing to link to your identity. Your profiles, care history, photos and notes stay on your device, or in your own private iCloud database when you use household sharing. Location, when you allow it, is used on-device and by Apple Weather to fetch a forecast; it is never sent to us. A sitter link publishes only the limited, expiring snapshot described above, at your choice and to the people you give the link to. The only thing it sends us is a feedback message, and only if you write one.
- Kounts Due collects no data about your use of the app: it has no accounts, analytics or crash-reporting SDK, and the only thing it sends us is a feedback message, and only if you write one. Your items, scans and notes stay on your device, or in your own private iCloud database if you turn on sync, which Apple treats as not collected because we cannot read it. Documents are read on the device and never uploaded. A backup goes only where you send it.
7. GDPR & DATA PROTECTION
Because your event data and other app content is stored only on your own device, we never see, access, or process this data. As such:
- We are not a data controller for your event data, which never leaves your device through us.
- The only data we may process is anonymous analytics and crash reports, which cannot be tied to your personal identity, and the feedback and contact messages you choose to send us (see Collection of Your Information).
- The one exception is a Kounts Care sitter link. That snapshot is published, at your request, to the public database of our iCloud container, so it is technically within our reach even though we never read it or use it for anything. You stay in control: revoke the link in the app and the snapshot is deleted right away, and every link expires on its own. If you would like us to confirm a deletion, contact us at the address below.
8. POLICY FOR CHILDREN
We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children under the age of 13. If you are a parent or guardian and you are aware that your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so that we can take the necessary actions.
9. CHANGES TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
