What's new in Kounts 2

The headline features of the Kounts 2 era, built for iOS 26, ready for iOS 27, and growing with every update.

Holiday theme kits

All 25 holidays now count down in a look of their own: a gradient, drifting decorations and an accent color for the ring, the numerals and the date pill. Pick Christmas once and it looks like Christmas on the event screen, your cards, shared images, widgets, Apple Watch and the Live Activity. Free for everyone.

Holidays that know where you live

17 new holidays join the picker, from Diwali and Eid al-Fitr to Lunar New Year, Carnival and Hanukkah. Your language picks the name and your region picks the date: Dia dos Namorados in Brazil, Mothering Sunday in the UK, Vatertag in Germany, October Thanksgiving in Canada. Seasons point the right way south of the equator.

Up Next above the tab bar

In an event’s final 24 hours a mini bar appears above the tab bar with the category, the title and a live "4h 32m left" readout on every tab. Tap it to open the event. It minimizes as you scroll and disappears once the moment passes.

The Shared Space

One countdown library for the people you live with. Invite up to five people by link, flip between Personal and Shared at the top of Events, and move countdowns across whenever you like. Your notes, reminder times and Important flags stay yours alone.

Kounts for Mac

A native Mac app with Cinematic Focus: press ⌘0 and the whole window becomes your next countdown, artwork edge to edge, ticking down to the second and moving on by itself when the moment arrives.

Five fonts

Choose the face your events speak in: Cabinet Grotesk, Satoshi, Chillax, Melodrama or Telma. Your pick carries through titles, day counts, rings, recaps, shared images and Home Screen widgets.

Multi-day events

A festival, a trip, a course. Add an end date and the countdown runs to the start, then holds a live “Happening now · ends Thursday” state with a pulsing badge and a “Day 5 of 12” readout until the last day is over.

On This Day

When a countdown you once waited for lands on today's date in an earlier year, a card slides in at the top of Upcoming: “2 years ago · Tokyo trip”. Open it for the full memory, or start the countdown again in a tap.

Multiple reminders

Big events shouldn't creep up on you. Layer up to four extra reminders on top of the main one, from a week out down to the moment itself, each with wording that fits how far away it is.

Milestones

Some dates aren't over. Mark a past event as a Milestone and it counts up instead: days smoke-free, years together, time since a big move, with its own tab, a streak card and a gold ring filling toward the next anniversary.

Ten card styles

Vial, Meter rail, Comet and Tear-off join Classic, Ticket, Orbit, Headline, Day Dots and Tally. Pick yours from a grid of preview tiles and it carries through to widgets, cover images and Stories.

Yearly Recap & the Memories Wall

A tap-through story of your year in countdowns: how many events you waited for, where your time went, your busiest month and your longest wait. It closes on a full-screen photo mosaic of the year, and any past year can be replayed whenever you like.

Birthday countdowns

Add someone's date of birth and Kounts counts down to their next birthday every year, shows the age they're turning, and keeps a photo timeline back to the year they were born.

Photo memories

Give every event its own photo gallery. Birthdays and recurring events group photos by year, so each celebration keeps its own memories and builds a history over time.

Repeating daily countdowns

Count down to the same time every day (bedtime, leaving work) on weekdays, weekends or your own days. It rolls forward automatically and ticks down live on widgets and in the Dynamic Island.

Shared events & albums

Share a single countdown with up to 5 people, without sharing a whole library. Everyone follows the same live count and adds their own photos to one shared album. Just send a link through Messages, Mail, or any app.

Calendar view

A month-grid Calendar mode lays your events out with a colored dot on every day that has something planned. Tap a day to see what's on, then tap through to the event.

Siri & Apple Intelligence

Ask Siri how long until your next event, find countdowns in Spotlight, or describe an event in plain language and let Create with AI fill in the title, date, category and location.

Version 2.2.1

Latest

Holiday theme kits & global templates

  • All 25 holiday templates get a theme kit of their own: a dark gradient, their own drifting decorations (ghosts and moonlight, falling leaves, rising confetti, crescents and stars) and a color for the ring, the numerals, the date pill and the badges. Free for everyone.
  • The theme follows the event everywhere: the template picker, the create screen, the event screen, shared images, cards, timeline rows, Home Screen widgets, Apple Watch and the Live Activity.
  • Your own artwork still wins. Pick one of the ten gradients or your own photo and only the background changes: the decorations and the color stay, and a photo gets a tinted vignette so it still matches.
  • A Decorations switch on the create screen quiets any event you want calmer, and Reduce Motion stops the movement everywhere on its own.
  • 17 new holiday templates: Easter, Good Friday and Carnival (computed properly for every year), Lunar New Year, Diwali, Eid al-Fitr and Hanukkah (real dates through 2035), plus Epiphany, Women's Day, St Patrick's Day, Earth Day, May Day, Children's Day, Midsummer, Day of the Dead and Boxing Day, all translated into 13 languages.
  • Dates that match your country: Dia dos Namorados on June 12 in Brazil, Mothering Sunday in the UK and Ireland, St Joseph's Day in Spain, Italy and Portugal, Vatertag on Ascension in Germany, October Thanksgiving in Canada. Your language picks the name, your region picks the date.
  • Seasons finally point the right way in the southern hemisphere: spring in September, summer in December.
  • A faster template picker: Holidays, Milestones and Seasons became tabs, holidays are ordered by what is coming up next, a search field finds any template by name, and the nearest holiday inside 90 days gets an Up next card at the top on its own artwork.
  • Smoother lists, and easier on the battery: editing an event no longer re-syncs notifications, alarms, your calendar, Spotlight and Apple Watch when nothing they show has changed.

Version 2.2

iOS 26 polish, ready for iOS 27

  • Up Next lives above the tab bar: when an event is inside its final 24 hours, a mini bar appears in the tab bar's accessory slot with the category icon, the title and a live "4h 32m left" readout on every tab. Tap it to open the event; it minimizes on scroll and disappears once the moment passes.
  • Your countdown on your wrist: the final-countdown Live Activity gained a compact layout for the Apple Watch Smart Stack, title and live timer, nothing squeezed. The same layout is what iOS 27 forwards to the Mac menu bar and the CarPlay dashboard.
  • Photos stay photos in tinted widgets: Home Screen widgets in the tinted (and, on iOS 27, clear) rendering style no longer flatten event photos into a single accent color.
  • Glass that respects Reduce Transparency: every text-bearing glass surface turns into a solid panel with a hairline edge when Reduce Transparency is on, instead of staying blurred.
  • The settings screens scale with Dynamic Type, and the last two pre-glass surfaces (the post-creation celebration and the onboarding illustration card) moved to Liquid Glass.
  • Ready for iOS 27: the Poster widget offers the new tall extra-large size on day one, and the app passed the iOS 27 source-compatibility audit.

Version 2.1.1

Translation fixes

  • Joining a shared countdown now speaks your language: the Settings row, the paste sheet and its failure alert shipped English-only and are translated into all 13 languages.
  • Every Shortcuts, Siri and Spotlight string now reads in your language, along with the Apple Watch complication gallery.
  • The birthday screens no longer fall back to English in Russian.

Version 2.1

The Shared Space

  • Create a Shared Space and everyone you invite sees the same countdowns. Anyone can add, edit or tick something off, and it lands on everybody's phone straight away. Up to five people, each on their own Apple Account.
  • A switcher at the top of Events flips between Personal and your Shared Space, each with its own upcoming list, its own past and its own filters.
  • Invite with a single-use link through Messages, WhatsApp or email. Joining is free: only creating a Shared Space needs Premium, so one subscription covers the whole household.
  • Any countdown can move between your personal library and the Shared Space from its ⋯ menu, and creating or joining offers to bring your existing events with you.
  • On anything shared, your notes, reminder times and Important flag belong to you alone, and they now sync privately across your own devices.
  • If a Shared Space closes, or you leave, every event stays on your device until you say otherwise, and keeping them is free. A lapsed subscription makes the space read-only rather than erasing anything.

Version 2.0.18

Five fonts & accessibility

  • Settings → Font offers five typefaces, each previewed in itself: Cabinet Grotesk, Satoshi, Chillax, Melodrama and Telma.
  • Kounts's display type moves to Cabinet Grotesk, free for everyone. The Kounts wordmark and logo keep their original lettering.
  • Your pick follows your events everywhere: titles, cards, day counts, timelines, rings and dials, recaps, shared images and Home Screen widgets. Buttons and live-ticking clocks stay in the system font.
  • VoiceOver now reads every switch by its row's title, so reminders, Important alarms and sync can be managed without sight.
  • Spoken countdowns follow each language's own word order across all 13 languages, and more labels scale with your Dynamic Type size.
  • Fixed: the Classic card's ring sits centered instead of clipping at the edge, and Settings no longer offers recaps for years before you started using Kounts.

Kounts for Mac 1.0.1

Mac

Trust fixes

  • Starting a shared countdown now checks Premium the way the iPhone does, while managing or stopping an existing share stays open to everyone, so a lapse never strands collaborators.
  • The toolbar share button opens the share-card sheet instead of quietly sharing an event you weren't looking at.
  • Participants can leave a shared event again, with a clear alert if it can't be done.
  • Important events break through Focus on the Mac too, with their own switch in Settings.
  • Notification taps, widget taps, kounts:// links, Siri and accepted invites now always raise or reopen the main window.

Version 2.0.17

Multiple reminders

  • Layer up to four extra reminders on top of the main one, each firing its own notification. The reminder form stays exactly as calm as before until you opt in.
  • The reminder picker regains 2 days, 3 days and 1 week before, so even a single free reminder can land well ahead of the day.
  • Each reminder speaks for its moment: a week out says “One week to go”, the day before still says “Tomorrow!”, and the event screen sums a stack up as “3 reminders”.
  • An Important event still rings its one full-screen alarm at the main reminder, with the extra nudges arriving as regular notifications ahead of it.
  • Reminders stay personal on shared countdowns, so yours never push onto anyone else.

Version 2.0.16

On This Day

  • When a countdown you once waited for lands on today's date in an earlier year, a card slides in at the top of Upcoming: “2 years ago · Tokyo trip”, with the memory's own cover art.
  • Open the card for a cinematic “N years ago” screen with the category, the date, and how many days you counted down to it back then.
  • Start a fresh countdown from the same title, category and artwork, dated a year out, in one tap.
  • The card only appears on a genuine anniversary, and when several past events share today it features the one most worth reliving.

Version 2.0.15

Multi-day events, the Memories Wall & more

  • Multi-day events: flip on End date and the countdown runs to the start, then holds a live “Happening now · ends Thu, Jul 9” state with a pulsing badge through the whole range.
  • The event screen counts through it with a “Day 5 of 12” readout and a day strip, and widgets flip at midnight to show the days left and a slim elapsed bar.
  • Calendar import understands spans, bringing multi-day events in as ranges, and two-way sync carries end-date changes both directions.
  • The Memories Wall: the Yearly Recap now closes on a full-screen photo mosaic of your year, one tile per event, shareable as its own 9:16 image.
  • Recaps are replayable year-round, so you can reopen any past year's story and its wall in the middle of July.
  • A proper in-app FAQ in Settings → About, in all 13 languages, with a Contact Us row on every answer.
  • The Timeline can show past events behind a Show/Hide toggle, and two more category symbols join the picker.
  • Fixed a crash when tapping one of Kounts's notifications: they always arrived, but opening them from the banner is what failed.

Kounts for Mac 1.0

Mac

Cinematic Focus

  • ⌘0, the toolbar button, or the chip on the Home hero hands the whole window to your next countdown: artwork edge to edge, the title big, and a live days : hours : minutes : seconds ticking under it.
  • When an event's moment arrives, the wall crossfades to whatever is next, so leaving it up keeps it current.
  • A glass rail lists the next four countdowns; click one to open it in the workspace.
  • The rail and the exit button fade after a few idle seconds and return the moment you move the mouse. Go full screen for a proper wall, and the display won't sleep while it's up.

Version 2.0.14

Milestones, new card styles & the Yearly Recap

  • Milestones: mark a past date and Kounts counts up from it, with its own tab, a streak card and a gold ring filling toward your next anniversary.
  • Four new card styles, Vial, Meter rail, Comet and Tear-off, chosen from a new grid of preview tiles.
  • A rebuilt create screen shows a live preview of your event as you fill it in.
  • People who join a shared countdown through a link can now add their name, so everyone sees who's counting down.
  • The Yearly Recap: each December, a tap-through story of your year, shareable as an image or a video.
  • Apple Watch complications now refresh in the background, and syncing holds up with large libraries.

Version 2.0.13

Three new widgets

  • Poster: one event, big and cinematic, with your photo full-bleed and the progress ring beside it.
  • Grid: your next events as photo tiles, four on medium and six on large, each tapping through to its event.
  • Minimal: just the number, in big digits with a slim progress bar in your category's color.

Version 2.0.12

Important alarms & flexible countdowns

  • Mark an event Important and Kounts rings a full-screen alarm instead of a notification, with sound even in Silent mode or a Focus.
  • A new "At time of event" reminder fires exactly when the event starts.
  • Count in the units that fit the wait: working days, weeks, weekends, or a word of your own like "42 sleeps".
  • Whichever unit you pick shows on your cards, widgets, Apple Watch and the cover images you share.

Version 2.0.11

Count down together

  • Invite anyone to a countdown through WhatsApp, Messages, Mail or wherever you chat. They tap the link and join in one step, always free.
  • Everyone in a shared event sees the same photo memories and to-do lists, live, without changes stepping on each other.
  • Your notes stay yours: notes never leave your device, and every member keeps their own.
  • See who's joined, invite more people, remove someone, or stop sharing at any time.

Version 2.0.10

Dial & Tally styles, a new Settings

  • The Dial countdown turns your progress into a ring of sixty ticks that light up as the day nears. Free on the Classic card.
  • The Tally card marks off your wait in hand-struck strokes, grouped in fives, switching from months to weeks to days as the day approaches.
  • Settings gets a more premium feel: theme and accent color right on the main screen, clearer sections, and a polished About.
  • A new confirmation screen shows each event the way it'll look right after you add it. Turn it off in Settings anytime.
  • Invite links now open straight into Kounts from any app, and a link that didn't open can be pasted into Settings → iCloud Sync.

Version 2.0.9

Unified share sheet

  • One sheet brings sharing a cover image and inviting friends together: slide between People, Story, Post and Portrait with a live preview.
  • Start or manage a shared event right where you share, and add people through Messages, Mail, or a link.
  • Premium members can turn the kounts.app watermark off before sharing a cover.

Version 2.0.8

Redesigned event screen

  • Opening an event now leads with its photo as a full-screen poster, with the countdown and date over the top.
  • Notes, lists, links and photo memories are gathered into one tidy card with tabs, each showing a count.
  • A new Memories tab lays an event's photos out in a grid, grouped by year for birthdays and recurring events.
  • To-do lists get a progress bar in the event's category color, and adding another list is always one tap away.

Version 2.0.7

Notes, lists & links

  • Keep everything about an event in one place: notes, to-do lists, and links.
  • Add as many checklists as you need, like Packing or Places to visit, and tick things off as you go.
  • Paste a link and Kounts pulls in its title and picture so it shows as a neat, tappable card.
  • A tidier ••• menu brings edit details, notes, sharing, mute and delete into one clean card.

Version 2.0.6

App icon badge & Control Center

  • A new app icon badge counts down the days to your next event, or shows how many events are coming up.
  • Add a Kounts control to Control Center, your Lock Screen, or the Action Button to jump straight to your next countdown.

Version 2.0.5

Sharing fix

  • Fixed an issue where inviting someone to a shared event could fail to create a link. Invites now generate reliably through Messages, Mail, and other apps.

Version 2.0.3
